It’s 1993 All Over Again!

Further adding to my “Blast From The Past” theme this week, I will speak briefly on the unfortunately named Dead When I Found Her, an Oregon-based industrial band who have released their debut album this week.

Combining the sounds of a mellowed out Nine Inch Nails with a dash of Ministry, this music takes me back. I briefly listened to bands like Front Line Assembly and Skinny Puppy as well, and this makes me fondly remember those days when I just had to be the only person listening to industrial music. I was so cool back then…

Apparently, the band consists of this one guy:

Michael Arthur Holloway

I tried to find a song to embed, but alas, I had no luck. Jump over to his site for a preview, and prepare to be whisked away to a magical time when the US was on the verge of a budget surplus and Nirvana was all the rage…

This music is… weird…

I can’t stop listening to this band, The Chap.

They’re so… strange.

I really can’t describe their music, so I will include a link to their MySpace page here. Go ahead and head over and listen, and then come back so we can discuss.

I know, right? At first, I was like, “This is awful.” But I couldn’t stop listening. “We Work In Bars” first. Then “Proper Rock” and “Well Done You.” Then “They Have A Name” about a half a dozen times.

Then I scrolled down and found “I Am Oozing Emotion.” Holy crap.

Then I found “Remember Elvis Rex.” Groovy.

I don’t know if I like this band or if there are subliminal messages in the music that have made me addicted to it…

Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse FULL ALBUM PREVIEW!

David Lynch, Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse

This album just sounds amazing to me. I have tried so hard to like Sparklehorse for about 10 years, but I always ended up a little bored. But with “it” producer Danger Mouse and David Lynch thrown into the mix, there is a little extra layer of ambiance (I can’t really describe it any better than that – just listen!) that keeps me interested.

If Sparklehorse has spent all these years trying to get my 15 bucks, then I guess they’ve finally figured it out!

“Dark Night of the Soul” comes out on Tuesday.

EDIT: If the preview above still isn’t working, jump over to NPR’s site HERE and check it out. Totally worth it.
